Dormitory car No. 42010 was built in 1950 by Pullman-Standard as Union Pacific 44-seat coach No. 5419 (lot 6844, plan 7617). It is unique in that it was constructed with a lightweight aluminum outer “skin” over a carbon steel frame. It saw service across the Union Pacific system until it was sold to the Grand Trunk Western as their No. 4810 in 1969, and it later became Southeastern Michigan Transportation Authority (SEMTA) No. 4810 in 1977.

The car was eventually sold to the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1994 and the interior was reconfigured to 11 double bedrooms. It was renumbered to RBBX No. 42010 and was operated on the Blue Unit train until the retirement of the entire Ringling Brothers railcar fleet in 2016.

The No. 42010 was donated in 2017 and was transported to Scranton, Pennsylvania. The car arrived in Port Jervis, NY on April 21, 2022. Half of the interior of this car is being remodeled into a commissary (including modern dishwashers, freezers, and storage space) to support the historic operations of diner No. 469. The remainder of the car will be used for bathrooms and crew accommodations during meal service in Port Jervis and at other off-site locations.
